RISING COSTS FACED BY BUSINESSES BLAMED

- By ANDREW ROBINSON

RISING prices, changing habits and the impact of Government policies have been blamed by Huddersfield businesses for making their lives harder in 2025.

For some business owners, the financial pressures were too great and they decided to call it a day.

The good news is that many new businesses opened across Huddersfield this year, including cafes/coffee shops, a Lidl, bars and restaurants.

The town centre regeneration is also taking shape, so it's certainly not a universally gloomy picture.

Below are some of the Huddersfield-area businesses that closed in 2025, and details of those that opened or invested money on refurbishments.

Imperial Cards

Young entrepreneur Stephen Mallalieu opened Imperial Cards in Huddersfield town centre in January but closed a few months later, blaming a lack of customers. Some suggested that the price of stamps had led to fewer purchases of cards.

BrewDog

BrewDog, which was based in Zetland Street, closed in January. The franchise partner that ran the venue also closed its BrewDog bar in Bradford.

Camel Club

The iconic town centre club closed in July, after 20 years, dealing a blow to the local drinking and dancing scene.
