Rugby starlet Erin urges other girls to 'give it a try'

A REDCAR rugby starlet poised to make her international debut hopes the Women's Rugby World Cup will attract more girls to the sport.

Redcar RUFC's Erin Smith has played rugby since she was six after her dad Ash asked if she wanted to "give it a go".

Give it a go she certainly did now excelling as a goal-kicking fly-half or inside centre and having represented Yorkshire along the way.

And aged just 15, she's in the Great Britain U22s squad to play Ireland in the Tag Rugby British & Irish Cup at the University of Nottingham on August 23 and 24.

It's a fantastic achievement for Erin, of Kirkby-moorside, who's played for Redcar for the past two years after switching from Scarborough.
