Children who are ill need their parents with them
The Gazette
|May 15, 2025
THIS week we are debating the Employment Rights Bill which is not an area that I am an expert in but there are groups of amendments around disability and children.
I have one that is looking to support parents who have a child with a terminal condition. I was speaking to an amendment that has previously been debated in the House of Commons and had been worked on by an incredible family. Ceri and Frances Menai-Davis who are campaigning on behalf of their child Hugh who died from a rare form of cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma.
It started with what looked like a bloated stomach and resulted in the diagnosis. It is a really sad story as they always are. Hugh died just after his sixth birthday after 16 weeks on intense radiotherapy.
