Some responsibility

Following up on something mentioned in our editorial yesterday, we bring up the death of a boy who died of leptospirosis in Caloocan after wading in floodwaters, looking for his father who had been missing for three days.

His father was earlier arrested for illegal gambling, but for some reason, had not been able to inform the family that he had been apprehended.

Now the boy's family is blaming his death on the police, aside from the fact that they are alleging the father wasn't really arrested for gambling but nabbed to pad the police quota for the day, a practice they called "pangsakto", and even hidden.

The police have come out with a statement that the death of the boy wasn't related to the arrest of his father. They have also denied the quota and hiding allegations.
