P20/kilo rice program officially starts today

The government's P20 rice program will officially launch today, May 2, 2025, at the Cebu Provincial Capitol, with Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. expected to lead the event.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia announced in a press conference yesterday that a “KADIWA ng Pangulo” event will be held at the Capitol quadrangle, where local farmers will have the opportunity to sell their products.
“We will continue to do this and this will be on a simultaneous basis. Other towns and other cities will be beamed into the LED screens showing also the selling of the rice,” said the governor.
Garcia emphasized that the rice sale will be conducted by Secretary Laurel—not by local officials nor in the presence of any political candidates.
She added that the event will be replicated in various towns and cities, where P20-per-kilo rice will be distributed by municipal agriculturists.
