“Distorted Realism”

Realism has long been perceived as the least contemporary in visual art’s compendium of creative genres.

It is, after all, the style that goes by the what-you-see-is-what-you-get approach in artmaking, which is about as classic and old school as classic and old school could get.

But as limiting and inhibitive as realism’s core ins and outs are widely-viewed as, its seemingly tired and tried reputation actually makes it rife for creative expositions and innovations.

This aspect to realism served as the heart of one of ArtPortal Cebu Midtown’s recently featured shows — the debut show of up-and-coming artist Leodito Bongo III.
