Manipur Violence: Supreme Court Extends Tenure of Justice Gita Mittal Committee Till July 31

The Supreme Court in the case Dinganglung Gangmei Versus Mutum Churamani Meetei And Ors observed and has extended the tenure of Justice Gita Mittal Committee till July 31.
The Justice Gita Mittal Committee is presently handling several humanitarian aspects of the ethnic violence in Manipur.
The court in the case clarified that the sexual violence cases being handled by the CBI which were being transferred to Assam for pre-trial steps would undergo trial in Guwahati Courts itself.
The bench comprising of CJI Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice Joymalya Bagchi was hearing the present matter.
The bench in its order stated that, 'The Committee headed by Justice Gita Mittal, former Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court is extended till July 31, 2025.'
The bench in the case directed that the report of the Committee needs to be supplied to the Government except for those which may contain sensitive subjects.
