The island, off Marazion, family seat of Lord St Aubyn, has only 31 residents.

The estate's head gardener Darren Little said the Mount had suffered the loss of 80% of its trees.

Mr Little said the strong winds coming through had caused “a lot of destruction” to its tree cover: “We've lost nearly 100 trees, and underneath those trees we have camellias, rhododendrons and hydrangeas that have all been affected by this.
