Historic island devastated as 80% of trees lost in storm

EXTENSIVE damage was caused by Storm Goretti to the historic island of St Michael's Mount, with nearly 100 trees blown down.

The island, off Marazion, family seat of Lord St Aubyn, has only 31 residents.

The estate's head gardener Darren Little said the Mount had suffered the loss of 80% of its trees.

Mr Little said the strong winds coming through had caused “a lot of destruction” to its tree cover: “We've lost nearly 100 trees, and underneath those trees we have camellias, rhododendrons and hydrangeas that have all been affected by this.
