On May 7, 1945, Nazi Germany officially surrendered, marking the end of the bloody conflict that was World War II across the continent.

With Hitler dead, the leadership of the Reich in disarray and Allied forces having overwhelmed German defences on both the Eastern and Western fronts, the capitulation when it came was inevitable.
