CRIMESTOPPERS has appealed for information on a series of disruptive North East cable thefts, with a reward of up to £1,000.

The independent charity is working with phone and broadband network Openreach after the incidents across Northumberland and County Durham.

Any information can be given anonymously, after the thefts left emergency services, residential premises and businesses without the use of their phones, broadband or TV services.

Large sections of live cable were dragged from the underground communications network using 4x4 style vehicles, in the following areas:

Hetton-le-Hole, at 4.30am on September 27 and 12.50am on October 5
