Veggies burned by leap in cost of BBQ staples

BARBECUE lovers are getting a raw deal due to higher meat prices but it is Britain's six million veggies and vegans who are really feeling the heat.
While the cost of traditional sausages, burgers and other meat for an outdoor feast has gone up by 16.5 per cent in two years, the cost of vegetarian food for the grill, such as burgers, halloumi cheese and peppers, has risen by almost 25 per cent.
According to research by AI household money-saving tool Nous.co, the price of "squeaky cheese" halloumi has risen by 35 per cent since 2022, from £3.58 to £4.91 for 500g.
