JOE Biden’s wife Jill holds the key to her husband’s future, following his dismal TV presidential debate with Donald Trump, according to close aides and experts.

The First Lady’s powerful, behind-the-scenes role has become pivotal in the 48 hours since the 81-year-old President’s rambling, often incoherent performance.

Critics have said it exposed his lack of mental acuity, leading to demands from his Democrat colleagues to make way for another candidate by November.

Now Mrs Biden is facing a growing firestorm of pressure to persuade her husband to withdraw from the election.

A leading Democratic donor revealed: “Jill is the final and most important voice.”

Ted Kaufman, a former senator from Delaware and close family confidant, said: “I don’t think he makes any decision of consequence without speaking to her.”
