LABOUR suffered one of the worst first 12 months in government in modern memory and Sir Keir Starmer has just had a woeful start to his second year as Prime Minister.

He has lost arguably the most popular figure in the party from his Cabinet with the resignation of Angela Rayner as Deputy Prime Minister.
He now faces troubling questions about what he knew about Lord Mandelson's relationship with sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein both before he appointed him US ambassador and when he defended him during Wednesday's Prime Minister's Questions.
There is unlikely to be a celebratory atmosphere at the upcoming Labour Party conference.
