Legendary boss gets Celts back on trackie with style tailor-made for strengths
-
MARTIN O'NEILL joked he'd had to send Celtic's kitmen to find him a new trackie after his interim clobber was auctioned off last month.
But when it comes to suiting the job at Parkhead, the Northern Irishman proved again there's no doubt he's a perfect fit.
Better than that. He got his players looking comfortable in their shirts again after a month of struggling in a misfitting system that saw Wilfried Nancy given the chop after just 33 days.
First-half goals from Hjun-jun Yang and Arne Engels had the Hoops on easy street.
Benjamin Nygren climbed off the bench to net his 11th goal of the season and Daizen Maeda put the gloss on the margin over a United side who had, 24 days earlier, inflicted one of Nancy's most damaging defeats.
Kasper Schmeichel barely dirtied his gloves as the Hoops bossed it from start to finish.
Yang broke the deadlock after 27 minutes - and in some style. Liam Scales fed the winger who took one touch and rifled a daisycutter past David Richards.
Celtic were in complete control but were dealt a warning when Auston Trusty's blunder let in Owen Stirton but the United striker hesitated and Scales flew in to block.
The Hoops took advantage as they doubled their lead through Engels in 32 minutes. Kieran Tierney bombed forward on the left and his square ball was perfect for the Belgian to blast home from 10 yards.
