City visitors set to be hit with congestion charge

Councillors are considering applying the tariff on people travelling to Glasgow from all of Scotland’s local authorities as it seeks to generate extra funds.

Drivers would be levied with charges when entering the city’s boundaries, while Glasgow residents would be exempt from the fee, although they would be impacted with an additional road tax for using the Clyde Tunnel.

Current proposals by councillors at the SNP-minority run council would mean motorists that use the Clyde Tunnel for work and enter from a different council region could be charged twice depending on how the scheme is rolled out.
