Brand and Griffin too hot to handle

The visitors won the toss and elected to field, a decision that played right into the home team’s hands.

Matt Griffin and Matt Sudworth gave Hassy a solid start, putting on 41 for the first wicket, Sudworth lbw to J Davies for 20.

In came pro Neil Brand and he went on to build a big innings with Griffin, the opener falling for 60 having reached 167 for the second wicket.

Brand's was the stand-out inning of the day, he raced to 150 off 118 deliveries, slamming 12 boundaries and seven sixes to help Hassy post 275-9 off their 50 overs.

Griffin went on to claim 5-27 off just six overs as Darwen were bowled out for 189, sub pro R Tiwari top-scoring for them with 68 and J Daviues contributing 35.
