Roadworks to last until end of month

THE end of roadworks on the high street in Haslingden has been further pushed back following a new delay.

Work on Deardengate, which involves converting Higher Deardengate to a northbound one-way system, started in July as part of the Big Lamp Project with Rossendale Borough Council vowing the road would be “reopened before Christmas”.

The £1.54m project will also include widening the pavements, resurfacing the road, refurbishing the Big Lamp and installing trees, public art and public seating.

Resurfacing work on the road and pavement started in October. Although the pavement has been closed to pedestrians access to the shops was facilitated with temporary ramps to a walkway.
