Joseph's car drives home powerful message

‘The mangled wreck of an Audi A5 has gone on display in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester city centre, in a powerful symbol of how life can change in an instant.

It also hammers home the consequences of dangerous driving and speeding.

It’s the car Joseph Brown-Lartey, known to friends as a gentle giant, was driving in 2014 when it was hit at a crossroads by a driver who ran a red light at 80mph in a 30mph zone. Joseph, 25, died at the scene.

Police officers who attended the scene on Bury Road in Rochdale said it was the worst smash they had ever seen on an urban street.

‘The car has toured the country as part of a hard-hitting road safety campaign, even going on show outside the Palace of Westminster in London.
