Council agrees 6.5% rent increase for tenants

Perth and Kinross Council (PKC) tenants will face a 6.5 percent rent increase from April 2026.
The rise was unanimously agreed by PKC’s Housing and Social Wellbeing Committee on Wednesday, January 21.
Despite tenants rent going up to an average of around £90 a week, it will remain one of the lowest rents charged by a Scottish local authority.
The recommended rise was moved for approval last Wednesday by Housing and Social Wellbeing Committee convener Tom McEwan, as part of the council's Housing Revenue Account (HRA) Strategic Financial Plan for the next five years.
Cllr McEwan said: “I am pleased to move the Housing Revenue Account Rent Setting Report for 2026/27.
This report asks members to agree a balanced and responsible financial plan for the year ahead, one that protects affordability for our tenants while ensuring we continue to invest in safe, warm, high-quality homes across Perth and Kinross.
“The report sets out the proposed HRA revenue budget for 2026/27 to 2030/31, alongside a significant five-year Capital Investment Programme totalling £81.1 million.
