PETROC College and Exeter College have confirmed they will formally merge in January - creating a regional education powerhouse.

- by PAUL GREAVES

Following approval by both boards of governors, they will form the Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group.

The merger takes effect on Monday, January 5, marking a major milestone for education in North Devon.

The deal will create one of the largest place-based college groups in the country with the aim of securing long-term opportunities for young people, adults and employers across the area.

As part of the merger, Petroc College will become North Devon College while Exeter College will continue under its existing name. The new Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group will continue delivering sixth forms in both Exeter and North Devon.

The merged group will also develop a dedicated Centre for Progression in Tiverton, building on the work already happening on that site. This will support young people with additional needs and those who need a different experience to reengage with education.
