PRENTON VICTORY SEES TRANMERE PROGRESS IN EFL TROPHY

TRANMERE topped their EFL Trophy group with a dominant 2-1 home win over Blackpool last night.

Goals from Patrick Brough and Joe Ironside cancelled out Scott Banks’ spectacular opener to end Rovers’ four-game winless run.

Andy Crosby's side will learn their next opponents in the competition tomorrow.

The game was delayed by an hour due to heavy rainfall, with referee Declan Brown conducting three pitch inspections before allowing the fixture to be played.

Rovers’ ground staff had even begun to take down the nets after Brown had seemingly signalled the match was to be postponed.

Many spectators headed for the exits whilst the Blackpool squad applauded their travelling fans, before a club announcement declared the official was yet to make a final decision. Brown finally confirmed that the fixture would be played, much to the elation of the crowd left inside Prenton Park.
