Funding concerns threaten future of defibrillators

Lifesaving defibrillators in Garstang are under review and could be withdrawn unless funding is found for their maintenance or replacement.

The alarm has been raised by Garstang vet Hattie Bertenshaw, who has one of the familiar yellow-boxed defib boxes fitted to her premises off Bridge Street.

The equipment, which can be activated by the public in the event of someone suffering a cardiac arrest, give an electric jolt to the heart and can be the difference between life and death while waiting for an ambulance.
