SIMON YATES, Great Britain's two-time Grand Tour champion, yesterday shocked cycling by announcing his decision to retire with immediate effect.

Yates ends a career that included overall victory at the Vuelta a Espana in 2018 and then, sensationally, at last year's Giro d'Italia as well as stage wins at the Tour de France.
T Bury wrote on Instagram: “This may come as a surprise to many, but it is not a decision I have made lightly.
“I have been thinking about it for a long time, and it now feels like the right moment to step away from the sport.
“I am deeply proud of what I have managed to achieve and equally grateful for the lessons that came with it.”
