Helen George and Stephen McGann promise big changes for Trixie and Dr Turner in the new series of Call The Midwife
-
Women's lib has come to Poplar in the new series of Call The Midwife, and as 1971 dawns, Trixie, Mrs Turner, Rosalind, Joyce and Nurse Crane take to the streets in support of women's rights in a scene that could have had fiery consequences for one cast member.
"We got to burn our bras, which was really fun," says Helen George, who plays midwife Trixie. "But I was a bit worried about my wig catching fire! It was actually really liberating, I think we had a moment where we were just like, 'Yeah, f**k it!' And then quickly thought that no, we do need bras.
"There are some brilliant stills [photos] that have come out of that day, and they're really vibrant, there's a strength to them," she says. "What's interesting is seeing characters like the doctor's wife finding her confidence and marching with a placard."
