EVER wondered how to run 175km through the merciless mountains of France, Italy and Switzerland in under 24 hours?

Run-gry like the wolf

HI-TECH: Checking the data. Left, Chappell

By howling at the moon like a wolf, of course.

Belting out Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan helps too.

These were just two of the strategies ultrarunner Tom Evans used to win the prestigious Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) known as the SuperBowl of running.

Starting and finishing in Chamonix, France, the 109-mile course snakes around the Alps with 32,000ft of brutal climbing across three countries.

What most would consider a daunting distance by car, Garmin athlete Tom managed to complete on foot in just 19 hours and 18 minutes, becoming only the second British man to win it.

The appalling weather was no joke either, but the former Army officer says being from the UK gave him an advantage.

"It pretty much rained solidly for eight hours through the night, and it was also cold and above 2,300m it was snowing so that made it difficult," he said.

"But I think coming from the UK it's something you are fairly used to. When you bring that into the mountains, nothing really changes, so every time I saw my crew at aid stations I would change some of my kit.
