Ollie backs McDowall to be Scots hero

OLLIE SMITH reckons Scotland are in with a great shout of claiming the Grand Slam – even without his Glasgow team-mates Sione Tuipulotu and Scott Cummings.

The Warriors full-back has seen first-hand how well Stafford McDowall has played since stepping in after national skipper Tuipulotu suffered a torn pec.

And he's backed the big centre to play a key role in what he's sure will be a successful Six Nations.

Smith said: "Sione is obviously a massive loss. But Staff can just slot straight in. He's a massive presence in ball-carrying and defence as well, so he can definitely do a job if he's the one that's going to start.
