Penalty agony for Scots kids

SCOTLAND Under-21s lost their opening Euro 2027 qualifier when the ref allowed their Czech hosts THREE attempts to score a penalty.

Scot Gemmill’s side were underwhelming in Uherske Hradiste in the first half and conceded a terrible goal scored by Ondrej Kricfalusi.

But they had improved after the break and were on top until Blackburn sub Kristi Montgomery conceded a penalty.

Farcical scenes saw German whistler Florian Badstubner, on the advice of his assistant, rule that sub keeper Ruairidh Adams moved too soon as he twice saved the initial spot-kicks.

The Dundee United goalie ‘was eventually beaten on the third attempt by Yannick Eduardo to condemn the Scots youths to defeat.

Gemmill’s side must now pick themselves up for the visit of top seeds Portugal to Motherwell on Tuesday.

The young Czechs are managed by Michal Bilek who was in charge of their senior side when they knocked Scotland out of Euro 2012.
