Police investigate as victims are left hundreds of pounds out of pocket

ONLINE sellers have been duped by scammers paying for PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles with counterfeit cash in a series of incidents.

The gutted victims of the swindle have issued a warning having been conned out of hundreds of pounds after advertising goods on Facebook Marketplace.

It comes after a number of similar incidents were reported across the central belt in the last week.

Police are now investigating the scammers.

Beth Parker, 29, had advertised her Xbox Series § on the social media platform when she got a message from a man agreeing to pay £196 for the console.

Beth, from Glasgow, agreed to meet the man outside an address on Ashgill Road in the city’s Milton.

However she noticed the notes were fake after she returned home.
