HEAD COACH URGES WALES TO IMPROVE ON DISPLAYS AGAINST SCOTLAND AND IRELAND

- BY BEN JAMES

ALES coach Steve Tandy believes a performance this weekend is more important than a result as Wales look to end their three-year wait for a Six Nations victory.

Despite Italy's heroics against England in Rome last Saturday, improved performances by Wales against Scotland and Ireland have led to a growing sense of belief that Tandy's side could end their lengthy wait for a victory in the tournament.

Wales have lost their last 15 matches in the tournament since beating the Italians in Rome in March 2023.

Their last home victory in the tournament was the previous year, when they beat Scotland in Cardiff. That's 11 straight defeats in the Welsh capital in the Six Nations.

As much as belief is growing that they can win, there's perhaps a growing sense that a result is important for Wales.

After this Six Nations, they play Fiji, Argentina and South Africa in the summer, then Australia, New Zealand and Japan in the autumn.

However, Tandy is refusing to put the cart before the horse on that front.

"I think performance," answered Tandy when asked what was more important this weekend; the result or the performance. "If we get the performance, the result will follow.

"I want both, if I'm honest. If we start thinking too much... I genuinely believe in this group and I can see where we want to go in the distance, but I understand the here and now.
