Ofcom blocks BBC radio station for older listeners

TONY Blackburn blasted Ofcom with furious tweets after the broadcasting regulator rejected the BBC’s plans for a station for senior listeners.

BBC Radio 2 bosses sparked uproar when they axed veteran broadcasters such as Steve Wright and Ken Bruce in a bid to attract a younger audience.

The corporation came under fire again after a commercial company's proposal to launch a “golden oldies” station to lure back those who had abandoned Radio 2.

Boom Radio which went live in 2021 and was designed to appeal to “baby boomers” welcomed former BBC stars including David Hamilton.

It is now the UK’s fastest growing commercial station.
