Review Councillor suspended as chair of mosque amid probe into social media posts

PROMINENT city councillor and magistrate has been suspended from his position as chair of the biggest mosque in Bristol as part of a review by the Charity Commission into social media posts from two years ago.
The investigation and suspension appears to be the latest fallout from the day Cllr Abdul Malik shared a video of a Hamas press conference in the wake of its attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Cllr Malik is chair of the Easton Jamia Masjid mosque, but has revealed he has been ‘temporarily suspended’ while the ‘Charity Commission reviews a historic social media matter’ from 2023.
The local businessman has already received a formal warning from the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office, in respect of his position as a magistrate in Bristol, and now faces what he described as a ‘review by the Charity Commission in relation to his position as chair of the mosque.
