Can you imagine people nowadays coping with how life was in 1947?

A nation which had just survived the Second World War, just hit by bad weather, coped with it in a way which people in our modern benefits ridden society could never imagine today.

The people then didn’t sit back and complain about no help from authorities, expect someone to wave a magic wand and it would all go away, they just saw what was needed to be done and did it.

Weeks of snow cut off isolated villages, with houses buried in snow drifts above bedroom windows. Miners in Wales dug tunnels through the snow. Roads and railways were blocked and unusable.

Many walked miles to and from work, no ringing the boss with excuses, not many had phones then.
