Pavilion Residents object to bid for booze licence

A CHARITY that wants to sell alcohol during occasional family fundraising events and car boot sales on its playing field near Bristol has run into opposition from neighbours who fear it will spark violence, drug-taking and road rage.

Beesmoor Road Playing Field in Frampton Cotterell has applied for a premises licence to serve booze at its pavilion from 11am to 10pm daily and play live and recorded music indoors and outdoors until 9pm. But it faces a hearing at South Gloucestershire Council licensing sub-committee after two local residents objected.

In its application, the charity said the hours it had applied for were to allow flexibility for events and it would not serve alcohol or play music regularly. It said the pavilion was open for fundraising activities and was not generally open to the public.

The organisation said three local football teams hired out the pavilion for its changing rooms on match days but that they had been told they could not sell alcohol "under any circumstances".
