Stimulus schemes drive food delivery

A government stimulus programme is driving the food delivery market despite a sluggish economy, according to leading online platforms.
The first half of 2025 marked a nadir for the restaurant sector, with sales per store dropping by 14% in the second quarter, said Yod Chinsupakul, chief executive of Line Man Wongnai.
The market turned positive in the second half of the year, with 1% growth in the third quarter and 5% expansion from October to November.
The uptick reflects a broad recovery in consumer spending, supported by the “Khon La Khrueng Plus” (Half-Half Plus) co-payment scheme.
The rate of new restaurant openings grew 3% in the second half, while the closure rate remained high at 50%, signalling continued pressure from rising operating costs and intense competition.
