The most important areas of the UNSC led in terms of global security and peace following the Cold War and the beginning of the millennium were terrorism, human rights and humanitarian infringements, environmental issues and an upsurge of weapons of mass destruction. The UNSC has been passed to solve conflicts, support peace processes, and respond to unlawful uses of force and implement sanctions in cases where harmony and security are endangered. In 2010 the UNSC likewise held a summit meeting on the upkeep of global peace and security, which is the immediate responsibility of the Council.
