Every journey toward wellness begins with a search for shelter- a safe haven where the body and spirit can pause, breathe, and realign. For me, that moment of arrival came as I crossed the gates of Six Senses Fort Barwara, its towering sandstone walls rising like guardians against the horizon.

Once, these walls of the 14th-century palace had sheltered royal families and women who found solitude in the zenana. Now, they were welcoming me, a weary traveller seeking alignment and balance. That is the genius of Six Senses Fort Barwara, the ability to reimagine history.

A LIVING HERITAGE

The story of Fort Barwara is as layered as the fort Itself. Built in the 14th century, it once served as a stronghold of the Chauhan dynasty, its thick walls designed to withstand sieges and invasions. Within its walls are two palaces and two original temples, carefully preserved so that they continue to serve as spiritual and cultural anchors. Walking through the light-filled corridors, I couldn't keep my eyes off the emerald-coloured pools, frangipani trees, domed pavilions and lush gardens. Suites have been created not by erasing what was, but by layering modern design onto historic foundations.
