The opening moments feel like a film sequence: a long drive through impressive gates along a gravel road winding through manicured gardens, towering pines and pretty fountains, and being greeted by staff lined up at the base of the stone steps, feels as if you are the owner returning from an arduous Grand Tour, alighting from your carriage.

Once ushered inside, you are told that the chateau is yours, and yours alone, for your stay. All 22 sumptuous rooms.

A glance around the expansive first floor reveals a games room, sitting rooms dotted with Champagne in ice buckets, whisky and port decanters, a freshly baked iced lemon cake on a stand.

There is a fully stocked bar with a long, polished counter and stools, leading to a trellised terrace overlooking the pool.
