The true story of a serial arsonist who ran amok in California in the 80s and 90s is the inspiration for Apple TV+'s slick new drama Smoke, created by Gone Baby Gone writer Dennis Lehane. Having quit firefighting, Dave Gudsen (Rocketman's Taron Egerton) is now an arson investigator in America's Pacific Northwest. While Dave presents a confident exterior, he's haunted by nightmares of being trapped in a burning house while on a call-out, but has found comfort in writing about his former cases.
