The rivalry between two celebrated 18th-century composers is the subject of Amadeus, Sky Atlantic's lavish reimagining of Peter Shaffer's acclaimed 1979 play, which became a 1985 Oscar-winning movie.

The White Lotus' Will Sharpe stars as young musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who arrives in Vienna in 1781 and immediately impresses Emperor Joseph II (Toxic Town's Rory Kinnear). But devoutly religious court composer Antonio Salieri (Wanda Vision's Paul Bettany) is tormented by Mozart's apparent divine gift, sees him as a threat to all he holds dear and is determined to bring him down.
