A firebrand pastor investigates foul play in a remote Swedish village

Lars Levi Laestadius was a real 19th-century Swedish pastor who founded his own revivalist movement in a bid to prevent his congregations from being further ravaged by alcoholism. And in Disney+'s Swedish language period drama To Cook a Bear, adapted from the novel by Mikael Niemi, he is the main character in a fictional murder mystery that takes place in a dangerously inward-looking community in northern Sweden.

The six-part series follows pastor Levi (Vikings' Gustaf Skarsgård) and his family as they settle in an isolated Swedish village in the Arctic Circle, where alcohol abuse is a serious problem.
