PARAMETRIC PRODIGY
February 2025
|Architect and Interiors India
Meet Monish Siripurapu of Ant Studio, who is redefining Indian architecture with a blend of human intuition and the futuristic concept of parametric design.
-
Parametric architecture in India is rapidly evolving and playing a big role in transforming the country's built environment. Currently, more and more Indian architects are resorting to parametric design to create innovative, sustainable and functional buildings. This approach is becoming popular as it enables designers to explore complex geometries, optimise structures and integrate environmental considerations into their designs. One such architect who is exploring the intersections of art, architecture and nature through parametric design is Monish Siripurapu of Ant Studio.
"The intricacies of a seashell, the geometry of a beehive and the efficiency of a bird's nest are few of the things that always intrigued me and I believe that's where my interest in parametric design budded," shares Monish, who runs Ant Studio from Delhi and is lovingly called the Dumbledore at his office. Because, like the iconic wizard Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series, he personifies the perfect blend of knowledge, curiosity and a touch of whimsy. His ability to see beyond the ordinary, solve problems with creativity, and guide his team with warmth and purpose makes him the "chief wizard" of Ant Studio.
Today, Monish is one of the few architects in the country whose focus is on creating parametric designs that are not only beautiful but also sustainable and responsive to environmental concerns. His aim is to push the boundaries of what’s possible by integrating advanced computational design with nature-inspired principles to create spaces that are meaningful and impactful.
In a chat with Sumisha Gilotra, Editor, Architect and Interiors India, Monish shares his experiences with parametric design and his view of how it can change the future of design in India.

MUSING MUSEUMS
A few months back, when I was in Budapest, I walked into a building that left me awestruck. The inquisitive me went on to explore, and I discovered that it was a museum with pixels on the exterior and that the curved structure of the building dipped underground to form the interiors, even as the garden I was walking on was the green roof of the building that interjected at street level! Woah! I quickly took some pictures and went on to research this building, and the more I read about it, the more I fell in love with it. And then of course I had to share it with you all!
