A home that brings together contemporary comfort with the charm of heritage craftsmanship - where modern design meets timeless details to create a sophisticated living space.

ECHOES OF ELEGANCE

A home that distinguishes itself through a masterful juxtaposition of styles is the vision that Architect Pranali Shah, Founder of Percept Design, conceived for this project. The result is a space where contemporary utility is seamlessly infused with the venerable patina and intricate detail of traditional artistry, creating an atmosphere of profound serenity and timeless sophistication.

imageTHE DESIGN MANDATE

The homeowners, a young couple, sought an environment that would instantly dissolve the city's hustle, with a clear preference for a space devoid of sharp edges where every architectural line felt soft and welcoming. They were drawn to the enduring quality and craftsmanship of traditional detailing, yet wary of allowing a purely traditional aesthetic to dominate, lest the space become visually heavy or static over time. Instead, they gravitated toward contemporary design for its flexibility, a non-static quality and clean visual appeal, while still desiring moments of old-world charm.

The design mandate, therefore, was to resolve this aesthetic dilemma by creating an interior that offered the functional purity and lightness of a modern home, while selectively integrating the grandeur, substance and intricacy of traditional elements. Functionally, the brief called for a contemporary, light-filled layout anchored in a predominantly neutral palette to ensure calm and visual spaciousness. Within this framework, classic elements—rich carved woodwork, arched motifs and saturated accent colours such as deep red and deep teal—were to be introduced as strategic highlights, acting like heirloom accents rather than pervasive themes, so that the overall ambience remains airy, uncluttered and timeless.

MUSING MUSEUMS

A few months back, when I was in Budapest, I walked into a building that left me awestruck. The inquisitive me went on to explore, and I discovered that it was a museum with pixels on the exterior and that the curved structure of the building dipped underground to form the interiors, even as the garden I was walking on was the green roof of the building that interjected at street level! Woah! I quickly took some pictures and went on to research this building, and the more I read about it, the more I fell in love with it. And then of course I had to share it with you all!
