The incidents in the Indian Premier League are becoming long-standing discussions that refuse to die down. If the mankading issue has barely subsided, another has cropped up in the form of Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s antics against the Rajasthan Royals and the punitive measures imposed on him.

Last week’s incident of Dhoni storming the field, aggressively challenging the umpires’ conflicting decisions about a no-ball in the final stages of the match against the Rajasthan Royals has become a major talking point from the perspective of the measures imposed on him of a fifty percent fine. If there was a feeling that the slow over rate issue was having little impact on the captains of the IPL franchise teams despite being charged rupees twelve lakhs, there is concern brewing that even a fifty percent fine, the minimum under level 2, was not a rap enough on the knuckles to ensure that captains and players do not become bigger than the game.
