Who Do You Think You Are? Tue, BBC1 HD, 9pm (times vary)

Alex Scott has always been hugely proud of her East End roots, so when she took part in this week’s Who Do You Think You Are?, she was thrilled to discover that her family had a strong link to a famous event in East London’s history.

The presenter and former England footballer looked into her maternal ancestry and learnt that her Jewish great-grandfather Philip Gittleson fought in the Battle of Cable Street in 1936 against Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists and the police who were protecting the fascists as they marched.
