Elton John wasn’t wrong when he sang at Princess Diana’s funeral, “Your candle’s burned out long before your legend ever will.”

While August 31 marks 20 years since her tragic passing in a Paris car crash, aged just 36, the People’s Princess continues to be one of the world’s most talked-about women.

“I think Diana’s death robbed the world of an extraordinary, luminous character,” her former press secretary Patrick Jephson said recently.

“She leaves an unfillable gap on the world stage.”

Indeed, in the two decades since the reluctant royal’s death, numerous books and biopics have been made about her life.

And next year, American Horror Story and Glee creator Ryan Murphy will offer his own take on it, with the second instalment of his Feud anthology series focusing on Di’s tumultuous life both during and after her divorce from Prince Charles.

“It starts with the filing of divorce papers and takes you up until her death,” Ryan says of the 10-part series, which is currently in pre-production.

“It’s about that pain of the dissolving of a fairytale, particularly for Diana.”

But in the lead-up to the anniversary of her death, more juicy details about Diana’s split from Charles have begun to emerge – and while some are more substantiated than others, they’ll nevertheless provide gripping plotlines for the TV dramatisation...
