Do not resist change. Accept and adapt to it.
The story of the human race is one of evolution and adaptability. Through the toughest of challenges posed by nature and fellow human beings, we have adapted for survival. From physiological changes to psychological ones, we are the kind that continues to adapt to the changing times. This adaptability is a beautiful amalgamation of the best of human traits—resilience, strength, intelligence, and an inherent animal instinct towards survival.
For the longest time, these instincts worked towards adapting to inevitable changes caused by the forces of nature. The challenges that we face now are just as important; they are still just as inevitable. These man-made challenges have come into being due to advancement of the human race. Technology, automation, internet, connectivity, globalisation, these are some of the numerous factors that are changing the way we live, work, and even exist. The immediate repercussion of these changes has been on our professional lives and careers.
In today’s world, the ability to adapt to change is a crucial life skill. From our careers to our relationships, change is present in all aspects of life. It is the only way to ensure growth. Adaptability can be described as the skill to alter actions, attitudes, and approaches to meet the demands of an evolving situation. It also means doing this successfully without hampering the progress towards a particular goal or outcome.
Adaptability is the reason for the success of many organisations. Being able to spot upcoming challenges in time and changing course of action to tackle them headon is a skill worth envying. With adaptability also comes an expansion in consumer niche. A great example of adaptability is the clothing label Zara, which brought the concept of ‘fresh fashion’ to the market. Adding to this, their low inventories and elegant designs have together proved Zara’s mettle as a brand that can seamlessly balance quality and innovation.
