Ibis Jaipur Civil Lines Gets Updated To Suit The Needs Of Design-conscious New-gen Travellers

- Maria Louis

Crossing The Line

Cheerful colours, added comforts and trendy public areas with a regional flavour coupled with specially curated culinary offerings have injected a buzz into the Ibis Jaipur, located in the heart of the busy Civil Lines area of the Pink City. The lobby, designed with enough seating to welcome big groups of tourists, is now pulsating with energy thanks to ‘selfie points’ at the porch and within, as well as indoor games and cosy corners with a little library where one can browse or read. “Initially envisaged to cater to guests travelling for business as well as families on vacation, the overall character of existing spaces was formal, private and inflexible – typical of a business hotel. But when we realised that, traditionally, Jaipur is more of a family-oriented leisure destination than a corporate one, it became imperative to make the spaces more social and inviting – which induces instragamable moments,” explains Arun Raju, VP and head of Projects, InterGlobe Hotels.

The plan was to not only revamp the public areas, but to renovate the guest rooms as well. The idea was to use vibrant colours and elements to achieve a younger and trendier look that would match the needs of millennials and young couples. The team ensured that every design alteration enhances consumer experience, offers modern facilities – yet remains affordable, so that the brands values are preserved. The formal layout of the original plan and lack of focus on family was apparent, and needed to be changed. Based on the traffic flow and type of guests, it was decided that the public areas should be more intimate and have zones within zones that would be conducive to smaller groups or families.

MUSING MUSEUMS

A few months back, when I was in Budapest, I walked into a building that left me awestruck. The inquisitive me went on to explore, and I discovered that it was a museum with pixels on the exterior and that the curved structure of the building dipped underground to form the interiors, even as the garden I was walking on was the green roof of the building that interjected at street level! Woah! I quickly took some pictures and went on to research this building, and the more I read about it, the more I fell in love with it. And then of course I had to share it with you all!
