To Buddhists, Mihintale is particularly significant and sacred since it is where Buddhism was introduced to the Island. The full moon day in June, Poson Poya, is considered especially significant as it marks the anniversary of Thera Mahinda’s encounter with King Devanampiyatissa in Mihintale.

Sri Lanka was first used as a film location in 1925. However, Elephant Walk, the only foreign English-language film – and a major Hollywood one at that – set in Sri Lanka since those early days presents a major distinction, though a curious one.

In Colombo, Sri Lanka we have our own historical main train terminal, the Fort Railway Station, which was built in 1908. Located in the heart of Colombo in the commercial district of Fort, after which it was named, the first train pulled out of the Station in 1917.
