Inside this issue we hear from Jeni Kardinal, an American woman working with a group in Karangasem in Bali to build ecologically-friendly houses using straw bales made from the left over stalks from the rice harvest, which are low cost and low impact with an inexhaustible supply of raw material, but with the potential to create huge change for the less fortunate among us. We also made a journey to Sumbawa in May to witness a most remarkable event: the launch of a 40-metre-long, 150-tonne, wooden pinisi schooner that took 18 months to build and was puled into the sea by man and machine off the beach in Wera and straight into the annals of Indonesia’s maritime tradition.
